BSS – FCS-916 Preamp and Parametric EQ

Every recording studio and/or live PA rig can use a really good mic preamplifier and a four-band fully parametric EQ. The BSS Audio FCS-916 combines both of those features in a single 1U package. You rarely see BSS FCS-916’s offered online because people who have them usually keep them. But this one is for sale.
With the exception of some very minor scratches on the top and bottom panels, this BSS FCS-916 is in very good condition, both operationally and cosmetically. It has been tested, and all functions work perfectly. All LED’s function, and there are no missing knobs. This unit was manufactured in the UK in 1991 and is no longer made, but when you put this FCS-916 in your rack, it will look like you somehow got a new unit. I’m selling this unit in the original BSS box with the original BSS User’s Manual. An IEC320 power cord is also included. The original retail price for this BSS model was $999.00, and you’d pay $600+ for “similar” British preamp / parametric EQ’s.
The BSS FCS-916 is feature-packed. Here are the main points:
- High quality input section with a high performance discrete microphone pre-amplifier
- Mic/line switchable
- Balanced mic input has a gain range of -15dB to +65dB with an Equivalent Input Noise (EIN) spec of <-127dBu from 22 Hz to 22 kHz!
- Switchable phantom power for mic preamp
- Pre/post EQ metering via momentary switch
- Six “British EQ” filters with independent in/out switching, including sweepable high pass and low pass filters and four-band fully parametric EQ. The four parametric EQ bands have a gain range of -15dB to +15dB in the “normal” mode and -20dB to -30dB in “notch” mode. (Notch mode is a great tool to control feedback or remove noise.) Each of the four bands can be switched to shelf EQ’s if desired. The bands all overlap and are:
o Band 1 Frequency Range: 20 Hz – 200 Hz (200 Hz – 2 kHz employing the x 10 switch)
o Band 2 Frequency Range: 40 Hz – 400 Hz (400 Hz – 4 kHz employing the x 10 switch)
o Band 3 Frequency Range: 1 kHz – 10 kHz (100 Hz – 1 kHz employing the /10 switch)
o Band 4 Frequency Range: 2kHz -20 kHz (200 Hz – 2 kHz employing the /10 switch)
